What is the Center for Leadership Excellence?
Celebrating the rich history of Southwest Washington, the Fort Vancouver National Trust in collaboration with Clark College, Clark County Youth Commission, ESD 112, Washington State University Vancouver, National Park Serivce and other community partners has developed the Center for Leadership Excellence. This program uses local history and civic leaders to teach leadership concepts including strategic thinking, problem solving, effective communication and team building through analysis of leadership traits and styles of historic and current leaders. This unique learning experience will make these concepts not only much more accessible and comprehensible, but also interesting, relevant and memorable.
The CLE is operated under the auspices of the Fort Vancouver Trust's Education Committee
Program Focus
The CLE program curriculum focuses on our community's historic leaders, such as General George C. Marshall and Esther Short, as well as contemporary community leaders, as is the case of the December workshop focused on Ed and Dollie Lynch.
Ed Lynch was an executive for Kiewit Pacific Company based in Vancouver from 1957 until his retirement. He and Dollie became community icons due to their dedication to a number of programs, projects and organizations including the Fort Vancouver National Trust, Identity Clark County, Southwest Washington Medical Center, Community Foundation for Southwest Washington, "I Have a Dream" Foundation and the Vancouver Methodist Church, among many others.
