Pearson Air Museum will offer the only opportunity in the Portland metro area for visitors to tour a World War I traveling museum developed in partnership with the National World War I Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, and Waddell & Reed.
The exhibit is housed in a custom 18-wheel "big rig" that has been transformed into a traveling museum offering a free, interactive and educational experience designed by the National World War I Museum. The gallery features artifacts, videos, audio tracks and an authentic walk-through trench that simulates the war environment.
The year-long tour of 75 cities across the country will take the traveling gallery to museums and cultural institutions to raise awareness and funds for the National World War I Museum and local museums, including Pearson Air Museum. Pearson's ties to World War I make this exhibit the perfect fit. Not only does Pearson display some World War I aircraft, but during the war, the Pearson grounds had the world's largest spruce mill, which was used to built planes for the war effort.
What to See:
· Experience the tight conditions of trench warfare
· See the relatively primitive tools, weapons, equipment and uniforms amid sounds and sights of war almost 100 years ago
· Pearson Air Museum also will hold an Open Cockpit Day so that visitors can climb into the cockpits of antique aircraft inside the air museum
· Although admission is free courtesy of Waddell & Reed, donations will be divided evenly between Pearson Air Museum and the National World War I Museum
