Visitor Center Exhibits
In addition to being the primary resource for information, The Visitor Center at Fort Vancouver National Site also contains an exhibit on the Hudson Bay Company's presence at the site. In 1825, England's Hudson's Bay Company built Fort Vancouver beside the Columbia River. The Fort served as a center of trade for a company whose reach extended over 1.5 million square miles, dominating the western continental fur trade and making Vancouver the hub of its activities west of the Rockies.
The Hudson Bay Company exhibit contains archaeological artifacts recovered from the historic site, maps of how Fort Vancouver has changed throughout its storied history, a 22-minute film “One Place Across Time,” and much more.
The Visitor Center is also the base of operations for Fort Vancouver National Site's education group tours, which server over 20,000 fourth grade students annually in addition to clubs, scouts, tourists, and other groups.
